In recent months, discussions regarding civil discourse and equity have become more prevalent on college campuses around the state.  We all are required to have equity plans, but what conversations are taking place around equity on your campus?  Is equity playing a starring role in your discussions, or are there hesitations about engaging in those conversations?  At the fall Civil Discourse and Equity Regionals, the Equity and Diversity Action Committee (EDAC) will be discussing these ideas, as well issues around social justice, equity and curriculum, and equity and student perspective.  Join us for a lively and engaged discussion about the role equity can and does play on campuses! Registration is free, and lunch will be provided.  We hope to see you there.

Basic Skills and Equity:  Why It Matters

One of the most vulnerable populations in the California community college system is that of basic skills students, who also happen to be among our most diverse groups.  How can equity inform basic skills instruction, and how can basic skills instruction be structured to help to close the equity gap?

Equity and Social Justice as Curriculum Issues

The recent creation of the Associate Degree for Transfer in Social Justice studies has resulted in increased discussions around how social justice can be infused in all disciplines. Bring your own ideas and share with practitioners from around the state.

1:30-2:25pm                     Breakout session #2

Creating a Culture of Social Justice.

Issues of social justice have been at the forefront of the news in the last few months, but those of us in the California community college system know that they have been around for far longer than that. Join this discussion about what is being done at local campuses around social justice and equity, and how you can bring this discussion to your own campus.

Starting the Dialogue on Equity; Faculty Responsibilities, Challenges, and goals

Is your campus struggling with equity conversations? Do you feel that some colleagues do not want to participate, or do not feel welcome? What can you do, as a campus leader, to promote inclusivity around these topics?  Models of how campuses have begun the dialogue, and effective practices to ensure that the dialogue continues, will be the focus of this breakout session.
