This message is carried to each college visited, is part of each technical assistance visit, and is shared in individual correspondence with local senate presidents.

Whereas, Issuance of blanket layoff notices fails to incorporate required academic planning involving the local academic senate; and

Whereas, Issuance of blanket layoff notices is a misuse of public funds and undermines student and community trust in the issuing district;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage all districts to resolve budget issues with the full involvement of the local academic senate so as to minimize the impact on educational programs; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges condemn the issuance of blanket layoff notices as a solution to ease budget problems, and condemn the frivolous use of district money on avoidable legal costs.
