Forwarded to BOG. Work to strengthen selection process.

Whereas an understanding about faculty participation in the Chancellor's selection process was subverted in favor of perfunctory participation, and

Whereas the Board of Governors process provides for only two faculty, with eight other people, to review resumes and forward ten to fifteen names without interviews to the executive committee of the Board of Governors who will forward one name to the Board of Governors for ratification, and

Whereas this procedure would deny the faculty an effective and influential role in the selection of the Chancellor, and

Whereas in the spirit of shared governance, effective participation on issues that have a significant effect on constituents and respect for the weighted role for faculty in an institution of higher education is lacking in this process,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to decline to participate in the selection process unless the process is strengthened to conform to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other standard hiring procedures and the faculty role is significantly increased to be effective and influential from the perspective of their professional expertise.
