This deals with old legislation, and I think we have conveyed the message it asks for.

Whereas, Faculty hiring policies are an academic and professional matter established in Ed Code 87365;

Whereas, In selecting the best candidate for a teaching position, committees should be free to select from the widest pool possible, to ensure equity, diversity, qualifications, and institutional best fit;

Whereas, Academic senates participate with faculty organizations/unions, administrators and others in the development of local hiring policies they deem most appropriate for local needs; and

Whereas, Proposed legislation calls for mandating that 50% of full time faculty be hired from the current part time pool;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local senates to consider incorporating hiring criteria for faculty that would benefit part time faculty, such as their teaching experience in a California community college; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges oppose this external mandate to hiring policies. MSC Disposition: Local Senates
