Over the years, this resolution has been accomplished via breakouts and other presentations that provide the ASCCC's established position.

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges follows a regular cycle of modifying and adding new disciplines to the “Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges,” more commonly known as the Disciplines List;

Whereas, Title 5 §53403 provides that “a governing board … may continue to employ a person to teach in a discipline” after a change to the minimum qualifications for that discipline; and

Whereas, Some faculty contracts provide for a “grandfather” requirement to retain faculty so affected, while some do not;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that local senates work with their bargaining representatives to ensure that faculty not be released from employment solely on the basis of a change to the minimum qualifications.
