The Faculty Freedom Fighter Award was approved at the March 07 Exec.

Whereas, Academic Senate awards are offered annually that support programs, excellence in education, diversity, and underrepresented students, but there are no Academic Senate awards that acknowledge or reward local governance;

Whereas, Effective local governance is in keeping with Title 5 53200, which provides that the Academic Senate means an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations with respect to academic and professional matters;

Whereas, Procedures and processes that support excellence in education, diversity, and underrepresented students owe a significant measure of their success to effective local governance; and

Whereas, Local senates frequently take unheralded stances that manage conflict by balancing principles with pragmatism;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges design, implement and seek funding for an annual award that honors "local governance"; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges work to establish a process whereby recipients of the Local Governance Award are honored annually before the Board of Governors. MSC Disposition: Local Senates
