Status Report

I brought this up again as recently as spring 2016, but I do not know that we have made any headway.

Whereas, Previously the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges provided faculty names to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) for accreditation visiting teams while the current practice of obtaining faculty names includes an online self-nomination process or a recommendation from the college president;

Whereas, The Academic Senate is the primary voice of faculty in academic and professional matters and strives to provide opportunities for faculty to gain experiences and expertise in professional and academic matters, including accreditation;

Whereas, The ACCJC has often expressed an interest in having more faculty serve on accreditation visiting teams; and

Whereas, There is a need for more California community college faculty to fully understand the accreditation process, and this can readily be achieved through participation on an accreditation visiting team;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges work with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) to develop and communicate available pathways to provide faculty names for service on visiting teams, including having the Academic Senate provide faculty names directly to the ACCJC to increase faculty participation.
