The committee polled academic senate presidents at colleges that had non-faculty in charge of transfer centers and conclused that no issue exists and that this resolution should not be pursued at this time. If the concerns raised in this resolution reoccur, then a new resolution should be developed.
Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has an adopted position (4.01 F98) that large colleges have full-time Transfer Center Directors and Articulation Officers, and that small colleges have at least a half-time Transfer Center Director and half-time Articulation Officer and that these two positions be faculty; and
Whereas, There is a recent trend in the California community colleges to replace current counseling faculty serving as Transfer Center Directors with classified staff;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate work with other faculty organizations to seek adoption of an amendment to Title 5 Regulations (51027) governing community college transfer programs to require that transfer center directors or coordinators meet the minimum qualifications for the counseling discipline.
