Are you ready to embark on a journey of collaboration, innovation, inspiration, and transformation in the realm of California Community College curriculum? Pack your bags and climb aboard! The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) invites you to attend the 2024 Curriculum Institute – Hybrid Event on July 10-13, 2024 held in beautiful Pasadena, California, at the Pasadena Convention Center!

2024 Spring Area Meetings

Given the overall success of the Area Meetings during fall 2023, the ASCCC has opted to once again hold the Area Meetings during a single day. The 2024 Spring Area Meetings will be held March 22, 2024.

These meetings are held before the upcoming plenary session to discuss matters of concern to your Area, review proposed resolutions to be voted on at plenary session, and generate new resolutions. The day will start with everyone together for a morning general session that will include the President's Update, Foundation Update, Discipline List process information, and resolutions information along with opportunities to ask questions about each of these topics. Then faculty will convene by areas to continue with review of resolutions and sharing of college updates. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is committed to providing resources to the field to further empower and help our system move forward during this time of crisis. To that end, the Academic Senate has put together a series of professional development opportunities to address some of the most critical issues facing our students and faculty today. Part 5 of the professional development series is focused on topics related to planning for fall 2020, curriculum, open educational resources, self-care, and governance.

2019 Curriculum Institute

Hyatt San Francisco Airport

The 2019 Curriculum Institute will take place at the Hyatt San Francisco Airport on July 10-13, 2019 located at 1333 Old Bayshore Hwy, Burlingame, CA 94010. The institute will cover a multitude of curriculum issues including the implementation of AB 705, Title 5 changes, the Student Centered Funding Formula, quantitative reasoning, guided pathways, UC Transfer Pathways, curriculum streamlining, noncredit, CTE, credit for prior learning, the Chancellor’s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI), and much more. The pre-session takes place on Wednesday, July 10. Colleges are encouraged to bring a team of individuals, and for the first time, colleges will be able to bring up to seven team members. College teams should include the curriculum chair, CIO, and a curriculum specialist, so make sure to reserve your spot now! More information coming soon.

2018 Curriculum Institute

Event Date: July 11 (Pre-session) - 14, 2018

The 2018 ASCCC Curriculum Institute, "Reimagining the Student Experience", will take place at the Riverside Convention Center on July 12 - 14. The institute will cover pressing curriculum issues including the implementation of AB 705, quantitative reasoning, guided pathways, UC Transfer Pathways, curriculum streamlining, the Chancellor’s Office Curriculum Inventory (COCI),  and much more. There will also be a pre-session available on Wednesday, July 11 with sessions for curriculum chairs, curriculum specialists, administrators, and those interested in guided pathways. Colleges are encouraged to bring a team of individuals to the institute that includes the curriculum chair, CIO, and a curriculum specialist. For the first time, colleges will be able to bring up to seven team members, so make sure to reserve your spot now!

The Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID) is hosting a Discipline Input Group (DIG) meeting in Northern California this fall.  Here is your chance to attend a meeting to explore the possibilities of aligning baccalaureate programs in your discipline.  For more information on the C-ID project please visit our website c-id.net.

 There is no fee to attend and a light breakfast as well as lunch will be provided.  Later, faculty will be appointed by their respective state senate to participate on the Faculty Discipline Review Group (FDRG) that will prepare draft documents for statewide vetting. 

 We need California Community College faculty who teach in the following disciplines to attend:

C-ID: Fall Discipline Input Group (DIG) Meeting - South

The Course Identification Numbering (C-ID) System is hosting two discipline input group (DIG) meetings for faculty to consider the development of C-ID descriptors and model curriculum (MC) for Engineering Technology.  The development of the C-ID course descriptors will support local associate degrees and certificates, specific to Engineering Technology.   For additional information on the work of the C-ID system, visit www.c-id.net.

The meetings are designed to be “come one, come all” to encourage wide participation and perspectives. Travel costs will not be reimbursed, but a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Later, faculty will be appointed by their respective state senate to serve on the Faculty Discipline Review Group that will prepare draft documents for statewide vetting. 

We need faculty from California Community Colleges and high school teachers who teach Engineering Technology to attend the meetings closest to their geographic location. In addition, we need articulation officers to assist each group.

2016 Curriculum Institute

DoubleTree Hilton - Anaheim

Curriculum is the heart of what we do as educators. The Curriculum Institute is designed to bring together teams of individuals working on curriculum – administrators, faculty, and classified staff – and to provide a platform for interactive learning by all attendees.  Informational presentations, direct training and guidance, and interaction with Chancellor’s Office staff make this Institute the most popular of the Academic Senate events.  Join us in Anaheim to receive updates on important current curriculum topic and to learn ways to improve and develop local curriculum processes.

Pre-session:  The Curriculum Committee is excited to announce that this year’s event will once again include an optional pre-session workshop on Wednesday, July 6. In the afternoon there will be workshops designed for curriculum chairs, administrators, and curriculum specialists who are new to curriculum.  The more seasoned curriculum enthusiast may find it beneficial as well. Additionally, there will be a morning workshop on the CTE Data Unlocked Initiative.  The Data Unlocked workshop will run from 10:00 to 12:00, and the afternoon workshops for curriculum chairs, administrators, and curriculum specialistswill run from 2:00 to 5:00.  The cost of attending the pre-session workshop is included in your registration fee.  However, you must submit a separate registration for the pre-session workshop and be a registered attendee for the Curriculum Institute.
 

Notice for CTE Data Unlocked Pre-Session Attendees:
During this workshop, attendees may be asked to access LaunchBoard data for their colleges.  Therefore, attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their laptops or tablet devices to this workshop.  Also, in order to access LaunchBoard data, attendees must have established a LaunchBoard account prior to July 5. Healthy Curriculum: Getting your curriculum into shape and keeping it that way

Curriculum is the heart of what we, as educators, do. Keeping our curriculum healthy requires our colleges to stretch, tumble, roll, drill, run, maneuver, and persevere through the curriculum race. Whether you choose to build noncredit endurance, boost Career Technical Education (CTE) potential, venture into innovative activities, or get an overview of heart-healthy curriculum, this year’s curriculum institute will explore topics intended to help everyone keep curriculum healthy in spite of the changing environment in which we live.
