The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges will host the 2021 Part-Time Faculty Institute February 18-19, 2021. ***Dates subject to change*** Join us for ASCCC's fifth annual Part-time Faculty Institute on February 18-19, 2021. The Part-time Institute will host a series of workshops and panels that aim to provide professional development activities, career advice and mentorship, and networking opportunities to part-time faculty in the California community colleges. This conference will focus on driving change toward equity and unity, specifically addressing the interaction of theory and praxis that many part-time faculty members find themselves navigating alone. The 2021 conference will boost discussions, voices, and representation of adjunct faculty across the state of California, both seasoned and new, and will specifically highlight contemporary issues and delightful enigmas that adjuncts face as formerly known “freeway flyers.” Part-time faculty bring unique values and perspectives to college campuses, and this year’s institute provides a platform for an intersectional welcoming dialogue for all.

2020 Fall Plenary Session - Virtual EventPathable Virtual Event Platform |
Plenary graphic photo by Dr. Rachel N. Hastings, MiraCosta College: 20 in 20 is both an act of remembrance and an act of systemic resistance. It is a visual reminder of the weight of anti-Blackness and systemic racism that we are carrying into our futures. I lift these names up and call upon you to join me in developing systemic strategies of resistance. In remembering. In re-writing the narrative for Black people in America. In re-designing the structures that stunt our human relations. We must re-imagine the possibilities. We must continue to #SayTheirNames. THEME: Addressing Anti-Blackness & IDEAs (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism) in Academic and Professional Matters The ASCCC Fall 2020 Plenary Session will be held November 5-7, 2020. ***Dates Subject to Change*** The event will take place in the virtual event platform Pathable. 2020 Academic Academy - Virtual EventPathable Virtual Event Platform |
Interruptions in education are not new. Snow days, extreme heat, floods, and earthquakes can all lead to temporary school closures. In addition, California’s students may experience the extended disruption and devastating impact of fires. But a global pandemic requiring social distancing and the sudden cessation of traditional classroom instruction for an undefined time period is a force so impactful that our evolution is forced – is it education’s Big Bang, where we will emerge anew? Or is it our Ice Age, leading to the extinction of select species and the rapid evolution of the survivors? This year’s ASCCC Academic Academy will explore the impact of our recent history on the future of education. Join us as we explore the use of open and online approaches to finding ways to redefine instruction and assessment, create more equitable learning environments, address long-standing inequities exacerbated by reliance on technology, and improve the success of all students. |

Cancelled - 2020 Career and Noncredit Education InstituteSan Mateo Marriott - SF Airport |
March 18, 2020 Dear Colleagues, In an attempt to flatten the curve of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Governor Newsom ordered statewide cancellations of events of more than 250 people, and the CDC released additional guidelines suggesting that gatherings larger than 50 people be cancelled. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is heeding the guidance and has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Career and Noncredit Education Institute. The health and wellbeing of our staff, attendees, and community comes first and we understand that many of our colleges and faculty face additional loads, as colleges transition to remote learning or make the difficult decision of closing the campus. The Academic Senate is here to support you during this time. We are currently putting together some resources to distribute to the field to help support the transitions taking place locally. If you haven’t already, please contact the San Mateo Marriott to ensure your hotel reservation has been cancelled. The Senate Office is taking care of the registration refunds and will connect with all registered attendees on this shortly. **Please do not put a refund request into the Eventbrite system as we can no longer process them this way. We are working with Eventbrite on getting all refunds processed in a timely manner. We ask that you allow at least 30-45 days for refund processing.** We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me- krystinne@asccc.org. Take care of yourself and take care of each other, Krystinne Mica
