2020 Academic Academy - Virtual Event

Pathable Virtual Event Platform

Interruptions in education are not new. Snow days, extreme heat, floods, and earthquakes can all lead to temporary school closures. In addition, California’s students may experience the extended disruption and devastating impact of fires. But a global pandemic requiring social distancing and the sudden cessation of traditional classroom instruction for an undefined time period is a force so impactful that our evolution is forced – is it education’s Big Bang, where we will emerge anew? Or is it our Ice Age, leading to the extinction of select species and the rapid evolution of the survivors? This year’s ASCCC Academic Academy will explore the impact of our recent history on the future of education. Join us as we explore the use of open and online approaches to finding ways to redefine instruction and assessment, create more equitable learning environments, address long-standing inequities exacerbated by reliance on technology, and improve the success of all students.

ASCCC: Professional Development Series

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is committed to providing resources to the field to further empower and help our system move forward during this time of crisis. To that end, the Academic Senate has put together a series of professional development opportunities to address some of the most critical issues facing our students and faculty today. Part 5 of the professional development series is focused on topics related to planning for fall 2020, curriculum, open educational resources, self-care, and governance.

In the program section below, you will find links to register for the upcoming meetings. If you have any questions or suggestions on other topics to include, please email info@asccc.org

Cancelled - 2020 Career and Noncredit Education Institute

San Mateo Marriott - SF Airport

March 18, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

In an attempt to flatten the curve of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Governor Newsom ordered statewide cancellations of events of more than 250 people, and the CDC released additional guidelines suggesting that gatherings larger than 50 people be cancelled. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is heeding the guidance and has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Career and Noncredit Education Institute. The health and wellbeing of our staff, attendees, and community comes first and we understand that many of our colleges and faculty face additional loads, as colleges transition to remote learning or make the difficult decision of closing the campus. The Academic Senate is here to support you during this time. We are currently putting together some resources to distribute to the field to help support the transitions taking place locally.

If you haven’t already, please contact the San Mateo Marriott to ensure your hotel reservation has been cancelled. The Senate Office is taking care of the registration refunds and will connect with all registered attendees on this shortly. **Please do not put a refund request into the Eventbrite system as we can no longer process them this way. We are working with Eventbrite on getting all refunds processed in a timely manner. We ask that you allow at least 30-45 days for refund processing.**

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me- krystinne@asccc.org.

Take care of yourself and take care of each other,
Krystinne

Cancelled - 2020 Spring Guided Pathways Workshop - April 24

Merritt College, 12500 Campus Dr

**Thank you for your interest in attending an ASCCC Guided Pathways Workshop. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many colleges have implemented travel restrictions and faculty are now working to offer their classes via remote delivery. As a result, the Academic Senate's Guided Pathways Task Force has decided to cancel this event. We will keep you updated if we are able to reschedule a webinar or in-person offering. At this time, we understand that faculty need to focus on their students.**

The ASCCC Guided Pathways Task Force is pleased to announce the upcoming Spring 2020 Guided Pathways Workshops. We encourage sending college teams that include the ASCCC Guided Pathways Liaison, the Academic Senate President, and faculty working in guided pathways implementation seeking professional development in student services and data evaluation. The workshops are highly interactive and are designed to provide professional development for faculty in three specific areas:

  • Strengthening local implementation with Guided Pathways Liaisons
  • Defining roles of Counseling faculty, paraprofessionals and faculty advisers
  • Supporting faculty in data literacy and coaching

Cancelled - 2020 Spring Plenary Session

Oakland Marriott City Center

March 17, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

In an attempt to flatten the curve of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Governor Newsom ordered statewide cancellations of events of more than 250 people, and the CDC released additional guidelines suggesting that gatherings larger than 50 people be cancelled. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is heeding the guidance and have decided to postpone the Area Meetings and Spring Plenary Session until further notice.

We will be sending out communication regarding our annual spring elections in the near future.

If you haven’t already, please contact the Oakland Marriott to ensure your hotel reservation has been cancelled. The Senate Office is taking care of the refunds and will provide a message to all registered attendees on this shortly.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to me- krystinne@asccc.org.

Take care of yourself and take care of each other,
Krystinne
