Funding and accountability efforts, such as the Student Centered Funding Formula (SCFF), AB 705, AB 1805 and others, rely on drawing information about our students and colleges from coded elements that were not constructed to accurately calculate and align with these current high stakes requirements. At present, the course coding for English as a Second Language courses at many colleges does not accurately represent college offerings nor does it represent student stories. It is crucial for movement of students to and through pathways and for funding that ESL courses be coded accurately. This regional meeting has several purposes: identify the new MIS data elements resulting from the AB 705 Data Revision Project; seek feedback and recommendations from faculty experts regarding the coding rubrics; and engage in dialog about data collection needs and possibilities as AB 705 is implemented in ESL and English/written communication courses. To that end, we strongly encourage you to bring your researcher as part of your college team! Full- and part-time ESL faculty in credit, noncredit, and adult education are encouraged to attend to review and provide feedback for CB21 rubrics for ESL. |
