Contextualized Teaching and Learning Regional Meeting South

Palomar College
The agenda is attached and will be available Saturday as a handout.  The Palomar College map is also attached.  We will be at Palomar College San Marcos Center (main campus). Although the attached map notes check-in and welcome at the Student Center, all activities will be in MD-157 or the adjoining patio. There are no parking passes needed as long as you park in designated visitor spaces in Visitor/Staff Lots 1 or 2.  Please note, attendees who no-show will be billed a $25 cancellation fee.  If you need to cancel, we must receive cancellations in writing prior to December 2, 2016.

The Curriculum Committee is pleased to announce that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is once again partnering with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office to hold Curriculum Regional meetings.  

The North meeting will be at TBD on Friday, 21 October; the South meeting will be held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut on Saturday, 22 October.

The morning will consist of updates on the latest news on from both the Chancellor’s Office and the Academic Senate on statewide curriculum issues, including the PCAH, C-ID/ADTs, the Curriculum Inventory, and the UC Transfer Pathways.  The afternoon will consist of breakout sessions covering a variety of topics ranging from curriculum basics, distance education, non-credit, and dual enrollment.  We encourage you to bring a team of curriculum chairs, senate presidents, articulation officers, curriculum specialists, and administrators so that your college curriculum team can gather as much information as possible. 

The programs will run 9:30 to 3:00.  Registration is required and the deadline is October 14th.

The North meeting will be at Skyline College on Friday, 21 October; the South meeting will be held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut on Saturday, 22 October.

Online ticket sales have ended.  If you are interested in attending Academic Academy, please come to the registration desk onsite Friday October 7th at 9am.

This professional development opportunity is focused on counseling and instructional faculty. The intention of this program is to highlight effective practices and cultivate a collaborative experience in service to the diverse population of students in our community colleges.

Specific topics include:

  • Faculty partnerships
  • Educational pathways
  • CTE Workforce Taskforce recommendations
  • Equity and cultural competency.

The program will emphasize creating faculty partnerships in credit or noncredit to improve the collegiate experience and academic achievement of our students.  These partnerships will further improve collaborative projects and initiatives by integrating classroom instruction, counseling, and student services. The Academy can inform and spark conversations around the role for all faculty in the following   areas: creation and implementation of guided pathways of learning, recommendations of the Workforce Task Force, and other initiatives.

Additional breakouts will address ongoing student equity planning and cultural competency in relation to the development of inclusive campuses to ensure student and faculty success.

The Course Identification Numbering (C-ID) System is hosting two discipline input group (DIG) meetings for faculty to consider the development of C-ID descriptors and model curriculum (MC) for Engineering Technology.  The development of the C-ID course descriptors will support local associate degrees and certificates, specific to Engineering Technology.   For additional information on the work of the C-ID system, visit www.c-id.net.

The meetings are designed to be “come one, come all” to encourage wide participation and perspectives. Travel costs will not be reimbursed, but a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Later, faculty will be appointed by their respective state senate to serve on the Faculty Discipline Review Group that will prepare draft documents for statewide vetting. 

We need faculty from California Community Colleges and high school teachers who teach Engineering Technology to attend the meetings closest to their geographic location. In addition, we need articulation officers to assist each group.
