Senate Publications

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges request that the Academic Senate Executive Committee examine the possibility of establishing a major professional publication for California Community College faculty, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges report at the 1988 Spring Conference on the status of this project.

Senate Rules Changes

Whereas state funding and the acquisition of a full-time secretary have made changes in the operation of the Academic Senate, and

Whereas it seems appropriate to assign a specific duty to the past president,


Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the rules changes as submitted, addressing the acquisition of a full-time secretary and state funding, and including a specifically assigned duty for the past president.

CCC Chancellor

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to explore the idea of making the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges an ex-officio member of the Academic Senate and bring a resolution with a recommendation to the spring conference.

Chancellor as Ex-Officio Senate Member

Whereas the California Community College system is in a process of reform, and

Whereas one aspect of that reform is to make the community colleges more like the UC and CSU in terms of governance, and

Whereas the California Community Colleges Board of Governors recently implemented a consultation process that recognizes the Academic Senate as the primary academic policy recommending body,

Electronic Communication

Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has a record of supporting the MJC infonet, and

Whereas there is a present need for rapid access to materials from the Chancellor's Office, and

Whereas there is a need to be cost-effective,


Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges explore with the Chancellor's Office procedures which would allow for electronic transmission of Chancellor's Office materials to local senates.

Teleconferences

Whereas communication among California Community Colleges can be improved,


Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges not only continue, but also expand, participation in teleconferences on issues and research pertinent to academic senates, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges explore teleconferences on issues as a supplement to the infonet to improve communication.

Academic Senate - Session Dates

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to publicize at each statewide session the place, date, and time of the next area meeting, and

Resolved that the publicity be directed both to senate presidents and to session delegates.

Rules Change - Standing Committees

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges add the Faculty Development, Legislative, and Affirmative Action Committees as standing Senate Committees by amending rule #6 of the Academic Senate Rules to read as follows:

A. Educational Policies Committee

B. Research Committee

C. Vocational Education Committee

D. Relations With Local Senates Committee

E. Faculty Development Committee

F. Legislative Committee

G. Affirmative Action Committee

Rules Change - Ex-Officio Senator Status

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges add to the Senate Rules the status of Ex-Officio Non-voting Senator, by amending rule #3 of the Academic Senate Rules to read as follows:Ex-Officio Non-Voting Senator Status: Ex-officio non-voting Senator status in the Academic Senate may be granted by the General Session of the Academic Senate.

Executive Committee Minutes

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges enforce paragraph 5E of the Academic Senate Rules: "The Immediate Past President shall prepare a brief report of Executive Committee meetings to distribute to local academic senates following each Executive Committee meeting and shall perform other such functions as the President may assign to assist in carrying out the purposes and policies of the Academic Senates," and
