Reassigned Time

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Board of Governors to adopt regulations specifying that the determination of a 75% full-time to 25% part-time faculty ratio in California Community Colleges not include faculty reassigned time or sabbatical leave replacements.

Matricuation Funding

Whereas matriculation is a keystone of community college reform, and

Whereas matriculation promotes and sustains the efforts of students in reaching their educational goals, and

Whereas it has been recognized from the outset that counselors are centrally involved in the following processes:

facilitating admissions

providing orientation to college programs and procedures

providing pre-enrollment assessment and counseling

offering support services and referral

following student progress, and

AIDS - Mandatory Testing

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges oppose mandatory AIDS testing for faculty, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge local senates that are in opposition to mandatory AIDS testing for faculty to communicate their opposition to their elected representatives.

Facilities

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend to CPEC and the Chancellor's Office that the Chancellor's Office representatives to the committee reviewing the CPEC draft document setting new facilities standards for California higher education consult the Academic Senate and CEO organization before providing their response to CPEC concerning the proposals.

AIDS

Whereas the Board of Governors has passed the first stystemwide AIDS policy in the nation, and

Whereas when AIDS education programs have been established there has been a significant decrease in the rate of new infection, and

Whereas AIDS direct service programs have contributed to the compassionate treatment of those affected in the workplace and classroom, and

Whereas there is no known cure, vaccine, or treatment to prevent AIDS transmission, except education,

South Africa

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges reaffirm its previous opposition to the use of community college foundation funds for support of the South African government, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Board of Governors to develop a policy prohibiting the use of community college funds for support of or participation in any activities that support the South African government.

Faculty Mobility

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge that the Chancellor's Office study the effect of salary schedule placement on the mobility of faculty in California Community Colleges.

Staff Development Workshops

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to develop workshops offered on a regional, district, or college basis to educate faculty and staff about AB 1725, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge local senates to use AB 1725 staff development funds to support the expenses of workshop leaders.
