Cross Cultural Focus
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage faculty to revise those courses which meet general education requirements to make them more culturally inclusive, wherever appropriate.

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the University of California and the California State University systems to accept community college courses with a cross cultural focus as fulfilling the emerging cultural diversity requirements for the baccalaureate.
Whereas it is the goal of the California Student Association of Community Colleges (CalSACC) and its Student Trustee Commission to promote stronger student representation within the California Community College system, and
Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has always supported a strong role for students in governance, and
Whereas the student trustee is a legislatively mandated position, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that the Board of Governors declare their commitment to access for the greatest possible number of students provided that those students are allowed access to excellent programs to promote the successful achievement of their educational goals.
Whereas part-time issues continue to be controversial at the local level, and
Whereas the ad hoc committees established to work on part-time issues are no longer functioning, and
Whereas the Executive Committee has no part-time faculty representative,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct its president to make every effort to appoint part-time faculty to Senate committees.
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to study whether or not the community college minimum qualifications to teach noncredit courses should be amended to include reciprocity to permit holders of some or all of CTC's Adult Education credentials to teach noncredit California Community College courses, as soon as the Commission on Teacher Credentialing completes its work on the qualifications to receive a credential that authorizes the teaching of courses in adult school, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Board of Governors to adopt the following language to grandparent current instructors of noncredit courses:"Notwithstanding Section 53412 of Title 5/Ed Code Section 87355 which establishes the Minimum Qualifications to teach noncredit courses, a community college district may continue to employ a person to teach a noncredit course if he or she, at the time of initial hire by the district, was qualified to teach that course under the requirements then in effect."
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to develop a model for equivalency evaluation of noncredit instructors for consideration by those districts where there is no process currently in effect.
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that the California State University consider making the TESL certificate available in all parts of the state.
Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopted noncredit minimum qualifications at its 1990 Fall Session and entered this position into the consultation process, and
Whereas the consultation process suggested changes in the Senate position,
Resolved that the Academic Senate of California Community Colleges recommend to the Board of Governors the revised proposed minimum qualifications for noncredit faculty.
