Whereas, The 1954 U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously that segregating students in public schools by race denied children their constitutional right to equal protection under the law;

Whereas, Brown v. Board of Education sparked the civil rights movement, which wrought enormous change to America's laws and public schools; and

Whereas, This year brings a wide array of efforts to mark the 50th anniversary of the historical civil rights desegregation decision;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges support the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the school desegregation decision in Brown v. Board of Education.
