Whereas, Participation in the development and implementation of budget processes is one of the academic and professional matters assigned to the purview of faculty under Title 5;

Whereas, Understanding and tracking state and local budget data is a critical skill for local faculty leaders who wish to participate effectively in the development and implementation of budget processes, but one which may be difficult for many faculty;

Whereas, Although the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges already conducts budget training sessions at institutes and plenary sessions, that training is limited to a relatively small number of participants; and

Whereas, Educational funding is undergoing an unprecedented crisis due to ongoing state and local economic conditions, which necessitates close monitoring of budget data and processes by all segments of the educational community;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges conduct regional training sessions for local faculty on accessing and interpreting state and local budget data and on resources available to assist local senates in the effective exercise of their role in the local and state budget and planning processes.
