Whereas officials of Thailand have expressed an interest in creating a "near-home" (community) college system for the purpose of supporting a democracy, and

Whereas the California Community Colleges have been invited to open a California Community Colleges Sumner School in Thailand, and

Whereas California Community Colleges faculty will be going to Thailand to teach various disciplines including, but not limited to ESL, cross-cultural communication, management of natural resources, hotel management, intensive English, English for business, and

Whereas various "Memorandums of Understanding" exist with the California State University, the State University, the City University of New York, and the California Community Colleges,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges support the international education efforts between California Community Colleges and Thailand, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to establish an information base of community college faculty interested in participating in the California Community Colleges-Thailand International Education effort, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to explore the development of a process to facilitate faculty exchanges and internships in the California Community Colleges-Thailand Education effort.
