Summary
Create an easily accessible online database of sample policies and procedures developed by individual California community colleges that includes, but is not limited to, the following: participatory governance, academic freedom, professional ethics of faculty, student conduct and academic honesty, curriculum development, program introduction and discontinuance, faculty hiring, planning and budgeting process, accreditation, students' rights and responsibilities; and ask local senates to submit examples of some of their best policies and procedures each fall to share and place in the database.
Status Report

This type of information is best suited to having an online data entry system akin to a wiki that basically is a long term ongoing dynamic survey with a monitored wiki output interface. The ASCCC has had many requests for the development of online research tools. Many of these requests remain in eternal hiatus because the committee is not able develop such devices. The ASCCC Executive Committee should strategically rethink accomplishing these requests or deem them unfeasible.

Whereas, Local senates often spend an inordinate amount of time addressing the same issues in devising or revising policies and procedures that other senates have already addressed;

Whereas, One of the functions of the Academic Senate is to provide resources to support local senates; and

Whereas, The creation of an easily accessible database of sample policies and procedures would facilitate the exchange of information among the California community colleges, and save valuable senate time;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges create an easily accessible online database of sample policies and procedures developed by individual California community colleges that includes, but is not limited to, the following: participatory governance, academic freedom, professional ethics of faculty, student conduct and academic honesty, curriculum development, program introduction and discontinuance, faculty hiring, planning and budgeting process, accreditation, students' rights and responsibilities; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges ask local senates to submit examples of some of their best policies and procedures each fall to share and place in the database.MSC Disposition: Local Senates
