Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is part of the worldwide community, and
Whereas the famines in Somalia and Sudan are rooted in tribalism and civil war, and
Whereas the net results of deaths from the famines are similar in nature to the ethnic cleansing occurring in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and
Whereas human torture and agony in both countries are crimes against humanity,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge that state and national leadership initiate and support efforts worldwide aimed at the immediate termination of such atrocities occurring in Somalia and Sudan, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges call on our state and national leadership to strongly denounce the practices of ethnic extermination wherever it may occur in the world.
