Whereas, The Governor did not include any faculty development funding in his 2005-06 budget; and
Whereas, Most California community colleges have exhausted their faculty development funds carried over from 2001-02 (the last time the System received a funding allocation for this purpose);
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Governor to support the System proposal of including $2.5 million of one-time funding for faculty development plus $2.5 million of on-going funding in the 2005-06 revised Governor's budget; and
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges work with the Consultation Council and System Office to educate the Governor on the importance of faculty development funds to provide programs, workshops, college activities, and funds to attend professional meetings that increase student access, success, and student learning through effective and innovative instruction and student services. Worked with CoFO partners to press for such funding. Included in system budget proposal. Continue work with System Office to secure funding.
Resolution is dated to the specific budget year. The overall issue is one we are still fighting for.
