Whereas the current wording in the October 28, 1987, draft of the General Education Transfer Curriculum does not clearly identify the requirements of an oral communications course,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges seek to modify the wording of subject area English Communication to read as follows: The English Communication Requirement shall be fulfilled by completion of three semesters or four quarters of lower division courses in English, reading, critical thinking, written composition, and oral communication. At least two semesters or three quarters must be devoted to written composition, and at least one semester or one quarter must be devoted to oral communication. Courses in this area shall include close analysis of a variety of representative texts.
