Whereas the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates has adopted a resolution endorsing a set of common requirements for an intersegmental general education transfer curriculum, and

Whereas the identified minimum requirements are as follows: UC AND CSU COMMON REQUIREMENTS SUBJECT AREA - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEnglish Composition - 3 semester units Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning - 3 semester units Arts and Humanities - 9 semester units (At least one course in the Arts and one course in the Humanities) Social and Behavioral Sciences (May not include state code requirements in U.S. History, Constitution, and State and Local Governments; courses must be taken in at least two areas) - 9 semester units Biological and Physical Sciences (One course each in biological and physical sciences, at least one of which must include a laboratory segment) - 7 semester units Total - 31 semester units;

Whereas the Intersegmental Committee recommended that additional study be given to the resolution of additional proposed requirements, including, for the CSU, critical thinking, oral communication, and ethnic studies, and, for the tic, English composition, mathematics, and foreign language, and

Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has previously adopted (Fall 1981) the position that oral communication skills are essential far fun participation in a democratic society, and for successful pursuit of higher education, and for satisfactory occupational performance,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the March 25, 1988, General Education Transfer Curriculum resolution of the Intersegmental Committee of the Academic Senates.
