Whereas students have a right to know grading policies in their courses in a timely manner, and

Whereas legislation in the area of grading policies has the potential to infringe on academic freedom,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges to amend Title 5 to include the following: "Community college districts shall adopt a policy to ensure that students have adequate notice of the grading policies for a course or program. 'Adequate notice' and circumstances for changes shall be defined in the policy. The local board shall consult collegially with the academic senate in the development of this policy as provided in sections 53200 and following of this title."
