Whereas there have been incidents of racial and religious hate crime and hate mail in local community college districts, and
Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges remains committed to a sensitivity to, appreciation for, and celebration of the diversity among the faculty staff, and students, and
Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges supports the first amendment right to free speech,
Resolved that the Academic Senate urge local senates to encourage their governing boards to condemn acts of racial, sexual orientation and religious-related hate crimes and hate mail, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate urge local senates to encourage their governing boards to develop a process through their local governance procedures to respond immediately to such acts committed in their educational community.
