Whereas the IGETC critical thinking/English composition requirement generated significant controversy among California Community Colleges faculty because of the requirement's hybrid nature, and
Whereas almost all California Community Colleges now have either an approved or conditionally approved course meeting the IGETC critical thinking/English composition requirement, and
Whereas many California Community College faculty are still convinced that the IGETC critical thinking/English composition requirement is harmful either to critical thinking instruction or composition instruction,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to conduct a study regarding the impact of the IGETC critical thinking/English composition requirement, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to specify in the study the impact both on critical thinking instruction and composition instruction, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to complete this study by the Fall 1995 session, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to submit the results of this study to ICAS, UC, and CSU.
