This has been a topic in the President’s Update and a focus in public presentations in 2008-2009.

Whereas, The State of California is currently experiencing a fiscal crisis of historic proportions;

Whereas, In times of fiscal crisis, administrators in many community college districts attempt to respond to budget constraints in a fashion which places a higher priority on expediency and efficiency than on the following of appropriate participatory processes which have been designed to ensure faculty input; and

Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has adopted numerous position papers and resolutions stating the importance of faculty participation in the budget and planning process;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage local senates to monitor the processes used in their districts and colleges to respond to the pending budgetary crisis to ensure that established budgetary processes assuring appropriate faculty participation are closely followed.
