Whereas a large percentage of recent full-time contract hires have previously been employed by their districts as non-contract (adjunct) faculty, and
Whereas the ethnic make-up of currently employed non-contract faculty does not reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity consistent with the existing or projected demographics of California, and
Whereas if current hiring policies and procedures practiced in most districts continue unchanged, a majority of future full-time contract hires will come from a pool of non-contract faculty which does not reflect ethnic and cultural diversity consistent with the existing or projected demographics of the state of California,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges develop a position paper on Ramifications and Implications of Affirmative Action on hiring non-contract (adjunct) faculty, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges support the 30% ethnic and cultural diversity goal for non-contract (adjunct) faculty.
