Whereas the minimum qualifications for academic staff working with students with disabilities have been set forth m Title 5. Section 53414, and

Whereas it is recognized that expertise in instructional planning for all disciplines/academic areas in the California community colleges rests with discipline faculty, and

Whereas the responsibility for course approval remains with campus curriculum committees,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Chancellor's Office to adopt delegated approval authority for special education classes for students with disabilities on all campuses which have met the conditions established for delegation of curriculum approval authority in the college curriculum, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges affirm that the role of the Chancellor's Office should remain consultative, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend to the Chancellor's Office that all new, locally approved, special education classes be eligible for all benefits outlined in Title 5.
