Committee discussed the topic and determined that other projects such as C-ID , CSU GE and LDTP clarify such expectations and to convene a new group could be costly and difficult. The discipline's professional organizations (e.g. NCA and WASC) additional have identified such standards. The topic may be primarily of local concern.
Whereas, Oral communication skills, including public speaking presentations, are important for students entering the workplace;
Whereas, Oral communication courses are required for many associate degrees;
Whereas, The A1 General Education Area for transfer to the California State Universities (CSU) has stated expectations that oral communication classes will include public speaking; and
Whereas, California community colleges have significant variations in their oral communication courses that satisfy local graduation requirements and/or the CSU A1 standard;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges convene statewide conversations among discipline faculty about expectations for oral communication courses. MSC Disposition: Local Senates
