Express our appreciation to the Research and Planning Group and System Office for conducting the BSI lit review; and
Research and recommend strategies to develop additional indicators addressing student equity in basic skills.
Status Report

A letter was sent to RP. This resolution was completed in conjunction with EDAC. Publication of the paper Practices that Promote Equity in Basic Skills in California Community Colleges and presentation of this paper's results at plenary and the Equity Institute address the specifics of this resolution thoroughly. In addition a searchable database of effective practices and the Basic Skills Handbook publication have provided a myriad of resources.

Whereas, The Center for Student Success recently published a document entitled "Basic Skills as a Foundation for Student Success in California Community Colleges";

Whereas, This document addresses effective practices for basic skills, assessment tools, and methods to estimate costs and downstream revenue for basic skills programs; and

Whereas, Student success and equity are greatly impacted by the effectiveness of the System's Basic Skills Initiative;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges express its appreciation to the Research and Planning Group and System Office for conducting this research study; and

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges research and recommend strategies to develop additional indicators addressing student equity in basic skills. MSC Disposition: Local Senates
