Whereas AR 1725 and Title 5 have mandated and delineated the role of local academic senates in shared governance, and

Whereas, when faculty assume their primary responsibility in academic and professional areas, the integrity of the academic mission is well served, and

Whereas the law recognizes that student success is predicated on faculty's efforts and expertise, and

Whereas, in order to foster student success locally, faculty must play a primary role in academic areas, and

Whereas some local governing boards and CEOs have resisted implementation of appropriate faculty participation in shared governance,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges reaffirm the role of local senates in the shared governance process as primary, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Chancellor to reaffirm his commitment to shared governance and to promote processes that lead to collaborative efforts from governing boards and CEOs, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Chancellor to urge CEOs to work cooperatively with governing boards and local academic senates to ensure implementation of shared governance in a timely fashion.
