Whereas, Faculty on local academic senates do not carry out their responsibilities and oversight of the "10 + 1" alone, but work in conjunction with staff and administration as part of a larger college community;

Whereas, Local academic senate offices can be resources which, when well-organized, provide essential documentation and support for college-wide efforts such as accreditation, committee assignments, and policy setting, as well as documenting the institutional memory of the college;

Whereas, Providing effective support to local senates may require specialized knowledge or training in matters such as the role of the Academic Senate, the scope of academic and professional matters for which faculty are responsible under Title 5, legal requirements affecting legislative bodies, effective record-keeping, proper documentation of senate actions, and many other matters; and

Whereas, Local senate membership and leadership change on a regular basis, as do support staff for local senates, and the training of new staff would benefit the development of materials and resources addressing the specific needs of senate support staff;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges develop a "tool kit" for use by local academic senates in training their support staff or for use by local senate leaders wishing to organize or improve their senate files, records, and offices.
