This resolution was approved as S07 6.03, and language implementing the change has been included in the proposed Title 5 regulation changes going before the Board of Governors in July 2007.
Whereas, Recommendation 1.5 of the System Office (previously known as the CCCCO) Agency Review noted the need for ".developing a plan for the transition of some aspects of curriculum approval to the regional level and some to the local level..." and called for the establishment of a standing curriculum advisory committee, efforts to improve statewide understanding of curriculum processes, amendment of the Education Code and Title 5 to permit local approval of stand-alone courses, and expansion of the definition of learning assistance/supplementary instruction;
Whereas, The System Advisory Committee on Curriculum (SACC) was formed in response to the Agency Review and has been instrumental in achieving Title 5 changes with respect to learning assistance/supplementary instruction and pending changes with respect to stand-alone courses; and
Whereas, SACC provides a unique and beneficial opportunity for faculty, System Office staff, and administrators to work collegially on curriculum-related matters;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges support the continued involvement of faculty in SACC and utilize this committee as a means of effecting systemwide changes as desired by the body and of facilitating a greater understanding of all aspects of curriculum.MSC Disposition: Local Senates, System Office
