Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges has continually asserted its commitment to affirmative action and equal opportunity, and
Whereas the Academic Senate acknowledges that support services (such as sign language interpreters and readers for the blind) are vital for the retention and success of disabled faculty, and
Whereas other systems of higher education, such as the California State University system, have ongoing funding from the legislature which provides support services for disabled faculty,
Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges strongly recommends that the Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges seek funding from the legislature which will provide support services for disabled faculty, and
Resolved that, in the interim, the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that the Chancellor's Office develop an allocation mechanism, funding, to provide support services for disabled faculty.
