Whereas the new federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) requires the establishment of a state Workforce Investment Board, and

Whereas the Workforce Investment Board will assist the Governor in developing the state's five-year strategic plan for providing job training services in the state for those individuals covered by the act, and

Whereas WIA requires the establishment of local workforce investment boards that will be responsible for implementing the act at the local level in accordance with the state plan,

Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Legislature to require participation of community colleges on both the state and local workforce investment boards, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate urge the Legislature to include community colleges in the development of the state Workforce Investment Act workforce preparation plan.
