AB 705 Data Revision Project Recoding Regional Meetings

Hidden Figures – Correcting the Course Coding for Accurate Accountability and Funding

Calling all* faculty in English, mathematics, or related disciplines – Funding and accountability efforts, such as the Student Centered Funding Formula (SCFF), AB 705, AB 1805 and others, rely on drawing information about our students and colleges from coded elements that were not constructed to accurately calculate and align with these current high stakes requirements. At present, your course coding does not accurately represent your college nor your student stories. In light of AB 705 and the SCFF it is crucial that English composition/critical thinking and mathematics/quantitative reasoning courses be coded accurately, including courses taught outside of traditional English and mathematics disciplines. Legislation also requires that support and preparatory course work are accurately tracked through innovative English and mathematics/quantitative reasoning pathways.

This regional meeting has several purposes: identify the new MIS data elements resulting from the AB 705 Data Revision Project; seek feedback and recommendations from faculty experts regarding the coding rubrics; and engage in dialog about data collection needs and possibilities for the fall 2019 and spring 2020 AB 705 implementation. To that end, we want to strongly encourage you to bring your researcher as part of your college team!

*credit, noncredit, adult education, full time, part time

Similar sessions will take place later in the year for English as a Second Language faculty.
