Whereas, IGETC and CSU GE Breadth have and do serve our students well, despite initial implementation challenges;
Whereas, IGETC currently serves as an effective common GE pattern for students and any limitations in the usefulness of IGETC to all CSU and UC students relate to policies by which the IGETC agreement is applied;
Whereas, The UC is more restrictive than the CSU in the courses it will accept for transfer and for GE applicability; and
Whereas, Even minor changes in GE requirements can have a significant negative effect on the variety of students' course selections and can create serious unintended consequences for a college's ability to offer an array of general education courses;
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges oppose any changes in GE requirements for transfer that increase the units needed to complete GE, decrease the courses a student may select as applicable to GE, and otherwise hinder transfer; and
Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the UC to adopt a policy that, in the absence of hardship, permits certification of IGETC after transfer.
