50% Law--Librarians and Counselors

Whereas AB 2023 would add librarians and counselors to the instruction component of the 50% law without raising the percentage appropriately, and

Whereas the Academic Senate has taken a previous position supporting the addition of librarians and counselors to the instruction component of the 50% law providing that the percentage is raised appropriately,

Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates

Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges will chair the Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates 1992-93, and

Whereas local senates have identified many intersegmental problems and concerns,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to examine the Senate's relationship to the Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates (ICAS) and identify problems and concerns with ICAS and general intersegmental problems, and

Relations with Faculty Organizations

Whereas the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges represents local academic senates, and

Whereas there are many organizations of community college faculty organized by discipline and other common concerns, and

Whereas these organizations should have some formal relationship with the Academic Senate and some regular means for raising their concerns within the Academic Senate,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the following 5-year plan for session sites.

Resolution on Behalf of Len Herzstein

Whereas Len Herzstein has made valuable and important contributions to the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges for more than a decade, and

Whereas Len Herzstein has served the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges as Treasurer, as a member of the Executive Committee, as Conference Chair, member of the Vocational Education, Elections, CIO-Senate Liaison and Business Articulation and Chancellor's Screening for Special Projects Committees, and

Bylaws and Rules

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges adopt the proposed changes to the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Bylaws and Senate Rules, with the addition of the following note at the end of the Bylaws:
Note: Ratification of these Bylaws in the form of a constitution was achieved on March 7, 1969 after a majority of the college academic senates voted approval and thus established the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges.

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges appoint an Information Officer to carry out the procedure by contacting the media and the Legislature via the press release.

Whereas, The actions taken by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges are professionally and academically important to the California community colleges;

Whereas, The public of the State of California is virtually unaware of the good work done by the Senate; and

Whereas, The importance of public support cannot be overstated;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges develop a procedure for informing the public via press releases and electronic media following each plenary session and other significant events.
