The Academic Senate has six appointments to the SACC. The faculty have been central to the proposed changes in Title 5 and Program and Course Approval Handbook.

Whereas, Both faculty and administrators have expressed frustration with the program approval process in its current form;

Whereas, Hesitation to engage in the program approval process and a perceived complexity of this process may have resulted in the decline in both new applications for certificates of 18 units or more and the number of such certificates awarded, as evidenced by System Office data;

Whereas, The Program and Course Approval Handbook is in need of revision; and

Whereas, The System Advisory Committee on Curriculum (SACC) provides for an effective collaboration of faculty, administrators, and the System Office in addressing matters related to curriculum;

Resolved, That the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges encourage SACC to investigate and recommend ways to streamline and improve the processes for program approval, as well as recommend appropriate changes to the Program and Course Approval Handbook.MSC Disposition: Local Senates, System Office
