Undocumented Student Action Week

Undocumented Student Action Week 2023

Mark your calendars for the 7th annual California Community Colleges Undocumented Student Action Week. Join the Chancellor’s Office and our statewide partners from October 16-20 for a series of daily webinars and on-campus activities designed to raise awareness about the challenges undocumented students continue to face and discuss solutions that support their educational dreams. Learn more about how you can advocate for the protection of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival Program (DACA) and assist in building a strong ecosystem that breaks down silos and promotes a collaborative campus approach to support undocumented student success.

Supporting Undocumented Students

The California Community College system enrolls the largest population of undocumented students of any segment of public higher education. When undocumented immigrants can pursue their career and professional goals free of institutional barriers and discrimination, they are able to reach their educational goals and, in turn, contribute to the improvement of their communities and our economy. Their success contributes to the success of California and that is why we must ensure that our undocumented students are supported in their educational journey. To advance best practices for supporting undocumented student success, promote ways to collaborate across sectors, and advocate for budget and legislative action in support of the long-term success of undocumented students, the California Community Colleges hosts an annual Undocumented Student Action Week (USAW) every third week of October. This year’s theme is Juntos Podemos (Together, We Can)Collaborative Ecosystems that Support Undocumented Students, which recognizes that we must be intentional about integrating undocumented student success throughout our equity initiatives by breaking down silos, creating welcoming campus environments, and advocating for policy solutions that allow undocumented students to achieve economic mobility. We must collectively engage in this critical work not just during Action Week, but every day of the year.

Undocumented Student Action Week (USAW) is a statewide effort led by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO), the Community College League of California (League), and the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC), with support from African American Male Education Network and Development (A2Mend)Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC)Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU)Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE)California Undocumented Higher Education CoalitionCampaign for College OpportunityCalifornia Community Colleges Organización de Latinx EmpowermentGuidance, Advocacy for Success (COLEGAS)Education Trust-WestFaculty Association for California Community Colleges (FACCC)Immigrants RisingSouthern California College Attainment Network (SoCal CAN)Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC), and Students Making a Change (SMAC).
