Rules Change - Standing Committees

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges add the Faculty Development, Legislative, and Affirmative Action Committees as standing Senate Committees by amending rule #6 of the Academic Senate Rules to read as follows:

Standing Committees:

A. Educational Policies Committee

B. Research Committee

C. Vocational Education Committee

D. Relations With Local Senates Committee

E. Faculty Development Committee

F. Legislative Committee

G. Affirmative Action Committee

Executive Committee Minutes

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges enforce paragraph 5E of the Academic Senate Rules: "The Immediate Past President shall prepare a brief report of Executive Committee meetings to distribute to local academic senates following each Executive Committee meeting and shall perform other such functions as the President may assign to assist in carrying out the purposes and policies of the Academic Senates," and

Disciplines Hotline

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges provide on the Senate InfoNet computer bulletin board an area devoted to the continuing development and modification of the disciplines lists regarding minimum qualifications for hire.

Future Community College Teachers

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges direct the Executive Committee to assign to an appropriate committee the task of preparing a position paper exploring ways to encourage community college students to pursue a community college teaching career, such a paper to include, but not be limited to, possibilities such as offering a course "Introduction to the Profession" and establishing future teachers clubs.

Faculty Board of Governors Member

Whereas AB 1725 mandates the appointment of a second faculty representative to the Board of Governors,

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges urge the Governor to make this second faculty appointment to the Board of Governors as soon as possible, and

Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Governor that this appointee be the 16th member of the Board of Governors.

Session Schedule

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that the Executive Committee prepare a generic program of each Academic Senate Session and distribute it in advance of the Session.

Inform Local Senates

Resolved that the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges recommend that the Executive Committee inform the local and/or district senates when inviting administrators, trustees, and/or other faculty from their districts as guest speakers at Academic Senate Sessions.
