Whereas, The California Community Colleges system in 2018 took a systemic approach to institutional redesign through the implementation of a guided pathways framework that was supported by a $150 Million California Community Colleges Guided Pathways Grant Program;
Whereas, The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges’ Inclusivity Statement
Whereas, The California Community Colleges system has prioritized inclusion, diversity, equity and anti-racism (IDEA) work—including through the CCCCO Call to Action, the DEI Task Force Recommendations, and the Vision for Success goals—to eliminate equity gaps;
Whereas, Local academic senates have an integral role in advancing inclusion, diversity, equity, and anti-racism through academic and professional matters; and
Career technical education (CTE), labeled career education by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) in July 2017,1 has been given a boost in recent years by legislation and funding intended to support efforts to close both the skills gap and employment gaps anticipated in California’s future. While classroom instruction is a critical component of programs that prepare students for the general and job-specific demands of occupations, work-based learning is equally critical.
The following glossary was developed from research and feedback gathered from faculty and researchers from within the California community colleges. It was created in response to ASCCC Resolution 09.01 S17, which asked the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges to address confusion in the field by researching and updating the 2009 glossary of common terms for student learning outcomes and assessment.
Community college libraries change lives. Library faculty throughout the California Community Colleges System play a significant role in helping students achieve success while supporting their colleges’ missions and values, academic curriculum, and institutional learning outcomes. Moreover, libraries embody the spirit of community, creativity, and discovery that educators all seek to instill in their students. Libraries also promote literacy, equity, freedom of information, and lifelong learning.
As institutions of higher education seek to support students through innovative learning and teaching methods, many colleges have begun to investigate the opportunity to provide tutoring through distance education formats. Support for student success is not limited to face-to-face interactions within the classroom. As awareness of online tutoring and its role in supporting community college students increases, many colleges have set goals to eliminate barriers in providing student success support by implementing effective practices for online tutoring programs.
21.0 Whereas, Resolution 13.05 S18 directed the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges to “develop a paper that clearly explains and differentiates Career and Technical Education, Cooperative Work Experience, internship, and apprenticeship programs, including their regulations, funding models, and overall guiding principles, and bring the paper to the Spring 2019 Plenary Session for approval”;
