Resolved that the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges adopt the document "Guidelines for the Implementation of the Flexible Calendar Program."
Resolved that the Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges adopt the document "Guidelines for the Implementation of the Flexible Calendar Program."
Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Board of Governors that there be no change in the minimum qualifications for tenure for vocational education instructors, and
Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Chancellor's Office that it carry out the mandated study of the impact of the bachelor's degree minimum qualifications for tenure for vocational education instructors, and
Whereas it is necessary to develop language for minimum qualifications for health services personnel, and
Whereas there have been community colleges which have "downsized" the positions designated in the disciplines list as Health Services Director/Health Services Coordinator/ College Nurse from faculty to classified positions,
Resolved that the Academic Senate work with the Health Services Association of California Community Colleges and health services faculty to develop appropriate regulatory language for minimum qualifications.
Whereas there are many non-classroom faculty positions at California Community Colleges such as research director, tutoring director, faculty development director, student activities director, health services director (college nurse) and others, and
Whereas currently the minimum qualifications for these non-classroom faculty positions are not clearly identified, except for the health service/nurse director/nurse coordinator/college nurse and counselors and librarians,
Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Board of Governors that the minimum qualifications for Adapted Physical Education in the California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Section 53414 be amended to read:
Master's in physical education with fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in adapted physical education or Bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's in occupational therapy the equivalent.
Whereas changes in the disciplines list may impact current instructor positions, and
Whereas current instructors are qualified to teach in existing disciplines,
Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Board of Governors that instructors be "grandparented" into changed disciplines without penalty.
Whereas the coaching of athletics involves "seasons" rather than "academic years,"
Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Board of Governors that the regulations governing minimum qualifications be changed so that for coaches, one season be equal to one year's experience, but that coaches may not receive more than one year's credit in any given academic year.
Resolved that the Academic Senate recommend to the Board of Governors that the disciplines list be amended as follows:
Sociology: Master's in sociology OR
Bachelor's in sociology AND Master's in anthropology, any ethnic studies, political science, social work, or psychology OR
The equivalent
Resolved that the Academic Senate, in response to major concerns expressed by the reading discipline, return to consultation groups to discuss acceptance of 18 semester units of coursework in reading, in place of 12 recognizing that the if the consultation fails, the original proposed (7.3above) will be sent forward .
