Cancelled 2023 Accreditation Regional Meeting: Accreditation During Changing Times

Los Angeles Southwest College

Note: This event has been cancelled.

Due to low enrollment for the Accreditation, the ASCCC had to make the decision to cancel the event at this time. We wanted to respect the time of all participants, attendees and presenters alike, and did not feel that we would be able to do so with the enrollment numbers we had.

The ASCCC will focus on updating the accreditation paper to address the recently assigned resolution and will continue the conversation at a future event. Additional information will come out in the form of a Rostrum article in April, as well as updates to the paper on Effective Practices in Accreditation

Higher education is undergoing many changes such as student placement and assessment processes, increased student services, and even consideration of a guided pathways framework. Likewise, accreditation requirements and practices are undergoing significant change. Accreditation is no longer an event that occurs once every six years to prove compliance; it is a process that requires annual consideration and broad participation to ensure that the education and services provided to our students are of high quality and value to the community and public at large. Whether your college is gathering evidence, in the process of writing an Institutional Self Evaluation Report, or preparing for a comprehensive site visit, the Academic Senate for California Community College’s Accreditation Institute will provide guidance and support. Accreditation is an opportunity to share everything that our colleges do well and to identify areas where improvement can be made. This year’s institute, while embracing change, is focused on understanding accreditation so that participants are empowered and energized to take ownership of accreditation. New this year, is a pre-session sponsored by the ACCJC. There will be two trainings: one, a new evaluator training for faculty and the other, new Accreditation Liaison Officer Training.

Healthy Curriculum: Getting your curriculum into shape and keeping it that way

Curriculum is the heart of what we, as educators, do. Keeping our curriculum healthy requires our colleges to stretch, tumble, roll, drill, run, maneuver, and persevere through the curriculum race. Whether you choose to build noncredit endurance, boost Career Technical Education (CTE) potential, venture into innovative activities, or get an overview of heart-healthy curriculum, this year’s curriculum institute will explore topics intended to help everyone keep curriculum healthy in spite of the changing environment in which we live.

2015 Career Technical Education Institute

The Academic Senate is holding a CTE Leadership Institute on May 8 - 9, 2015, at the Sheraton in La Jolla. As many of you know, this year there is an intense focus on career and technical education at the federal, state, and local level. In our CCC system, the Board of Governors has formed a task force on Workforce, Job Creation and a Strong Economy, which has been convening regional college and faculty conversations and industry town hall meetings.

President Obama’s recent national challenge focuses on the dire lack of equity in America by calling for open access to higher education for all Americans though community colleges. “A college degree is the surest ticket to the middle class, it ensures you are always employable.” President Barack Obama, January, 2015

This event will provide CTE faculty with the opportunity to engage in key policy conversations through their interaction with representatives of the task force, by learning about the implications of policy decisions on local programs and courses, and in participating in breakout sessions to better understand the college processes including topics on leadership, curriculum design, course repetition, and effective program advocacy.

2015 Accreditation Institute

San Mateo Marriott San Francisco Airport
