ASCCC: Small-Group Discussions

The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is committed to providing resources to the field to further empower and help our system move forward during this time of crisis. To that end, the Academic Senate has put together a series of professional development opportunities to address some of the most critical issues facing our students and faculty today. This is part 3 of the professional development series that will be offered to the field. Information on future meeting and webinars will be posted on the ASCCC webpage. 

In the program section below, you will find links to register for the upcoming online discussions. Each discussion is offered multiple times during the week and is limited to 25 participants to enable rich dialogue and discussion. The discussions will not be recorded but promising ideas will be posted and shared on our website. If you have any questions or suggestions on other disciplines to include, please email info@asccc.org

Join us for the ASCCC's third annual Part-time Faculty Institute on February 21 – 23, 2019, in partnership with 3CSN and with support of the Chancellor's Office. This institute is designed to support new and experienced part-time faculty. Whether you are hoping to become a full-time faculty or want to become a more effective faculty member and teacher, this institute will have something for everyone. This year's Institute will include topics on innovative pedagogy, campus involvement, leadership and equity, and the recruitment, hiring, and interview process. Thanks to the grant from 3CSN, ASCCC is able to offer complimentary registration to the Institute along with a two-night hotel stay on a first come first serve basis. Registration is limited, and the hotel rooms and "travel" scholarships will all be claimed.

The Course Identification Numbering System (C-ID) is hosting a Discipline Input Group (DIG) meeting in Northern California this fall.  Here is your chance to attend a meeting to explore the possibilities of aligning baccalaureate programs in your discipline.  For more information on the C-ID project please visit our website c-id.net.

 There is no fee to attend and a light breakfast as well as lunch will be provided.  Later, faculty will be appointed by their respective state senate to participate on the Faculty Discipline Review Group (FDRG) that will prepare draft documents for statewide vetting.

C-ID: Fall Discipline Input Group (DIG) Meeting - South

The Course Identification Numbering (C-ID) System is hosting two discipline input group (DIG) meetings for faculty to consider the development of C-ID descriptors and model curriculum (MC) for Engineering Technology.  The development of the C-ID course descriptors will support local associate degrees and certificates, specific to Engineering Technology.   For additional information on the work of the C-ID system, visit www.c-id.net.

The meetings are designed to be “come one, come all” to encourage wide participation and perspectives. Travel costs will not be reimbursed, but a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Later, faculty will be appointed by their respective state senate to serve on the Faculty Discipline Review Group that will prepare draft documents for statewide vetting. 

We need faculty from California Community Colleges and high school teachers who teach Engineering Technology to attend the meetings closest to their geographic location. In addition, we need articulation officers to assist each group.

2016 CTE Leadership Academy

DoubleTree Hilton - Anaheim

The Academic Senate will hold a CTE Leadership Institute on May 6-7, 2016, at the DoubleTree Hilton in Anaheim. This year will bring an intense focus on career and technical education at the federal, state, and local level. In our CCC system, the Board of Governors’ Task Force on Workforce, Job Creation, and a Strong Economy recently released its recommendations.  By the time this event takes place in May, implementation conversations will be well underway and input from faculty statewide will be needed.

This event will provide CTE faculty with the opportunity to engage in key policy conversations through their interaction with representatives of the task force, by learning about the implications of policy decisions on local programs and courses, and in participating in breakout sessions to better understand the college processes including topics on leadership, curriculum design, course repetition, and effective program advocacy.

2016 Spring Plenary Session

This year, the Academic Senate will collaborate with other constituents in hosting the Spring Plenary Session, partnering with the Chief Instructional Officers (CCCCIOs), the California Community College Association of Occupational Educators (CCCAOE), Chief Student Services Officers (CSSOs), the Chancellor’s Office, and other organizations to host the first Community College collaborative event Aligning Partnerships for Student Success. Today’s current higher education environment will require a close collaboration with all college constituents to address issues of common concern.  Register early to secure a slot for this event.
